Agrivoltaism

Which PV modules for my agrivoltaic project ?

The term agrivoltaics refers to various types of photovoltaic projects implemented on agricultural land. French legislation (decree no. 2024-318 of 8 April 2024) sets out a number of objectives and conditions that apply to solar power plants installed on pastureland, cultivated fields, greenhouses, or livestock buildings.

For a concise analysis of the agrivoltaic decree, please refer to this article.

Livestock buildings or pastoral

For an agrivoltaic power plant installed on a livestock building or in open fields, Synapsun recommends using standard modules, which will deliver the best performance. If your project requires it, the Synapsun team can also guide you towards modules certified to the IEC 62716 standard, which certifies resistance to ammonia (NH₃) corrosion. This may be essential depending on the type of livestock and the specific characteristics of the project.

You can find all modules suited to agrivoltaic systems on livestock buildings or pastoral land here.

Horticultural or market gardening greenhouse

When it comes to an agrivoltaic installation covering a horticultural or market gardening greenhouse, or located on cultivated land, another type of module may be required : semi-transparent photovoltaic modules. These modules allow a portion of sunlight to pass through the panel to benefit the crops underneath. The transparency rate of such panels can vary depending on the project’s requirements, as can the size and output.

This product offering is relatively limited, but Synapsun has identified and vetted a number of partners capable of supplying these modules. We are here to support you in sourcing semi-transparent modules.
